Now this was the first Animation done by a New York newspaper cartoonist James Stuart Blackton who interviewd the inventor Thomas Edison who was experimenting with moving pictures as you saw in the previous post. In 1906 they publicly released Humorous Phases of Funny Faces the first animation. Blackton used about 3000 'flickering drawings' to make this first animated picture. He is the forefather of the animated cartoon. The animation shown in the previuos post was a test they did before this. The novelty brought explosions of laughter and was an instant hit!
